Whenever we have a good experience at a local business we like to make sure we share it with others around our community.  We have had many great experiences with the Prime Rib Restauraunt & Wine Bar and it's time we told you about a few of them. 

Established in 1983, Prime Rib has long been a premier dining spot here in Gillette WY.  It has earned local and national recognition and awards for its quality food and extensive wine list.  They pride themselves on being a versatile destination to celebrate special occasions, dine casually with family, conduct business meetings or presentations, enjoy an intimate meal with a special someone, or to host a large gathering.  With 8,000 sq ft of dining space, it is the perfect place for all of the above!

We have been going to Prime Rib for as long as we can remember.  We have enjoyed date nights, family dinners, business meetings, board meetings, and most recently our 10 year class reunion.  The prime rib is also known for their catering.  In fact, they even catered our wedding reception of nearly 400 people!

Several years ago The Prime Rib underwent a major renovation/expansion giving the entire restaurant a facelift inside and out.  The result is a beautiful building with two outdoor fire pit seating areas, a full bar with 22 televisions, and a number of dining areas all surrounding a stunning glass encased wine cellar that holds nearly 3500 bottles of wine!

We have had many great meals over the years at The Prime Rib.  They have a large and diverse menu with something for everyone.  For an appetiser we have two favorites, the escargot and the crab stuffed mushrooms.  As somewhat of a connoisseur in both, we have tried many and these rank toward the top!  After appetizers prepare yourself for a great salad or potato cheese soup and homemade bread that will leave you wanting more.  If we had to pick just one dinner item that has stuck out over the years it has to be the prime rib!  It is slow roasted and cooked to perfection!  I personally like to pair mine with the garlic mashed potatoes, while Lexi tends to lean toward the sweet potato and cinnamon butter.  Desert is up to you, but I guarantee you won't be disappointed!

As you can tell we are fan's of The Prime Rib Restaurant and Wine Bar and would recommend it for all of your dining and catering needs!

The Gillette WY real estate market is alive and well!  We currently have an inventory that is higher than usual for this time of year, but homes are continuing to move which helps us rest assured that the overall market continues to be healthy and relatively balanced.  Our absorption rate sits at about 7.5 months.  This number is really a tale of two markets. 

The very low end of the market (under $120,000) is the fastest selling price point at this time.  We attribute this to the influx of foreclosures that have hit our market over the past 6-12 months.  Homes in the $180,000 - $250,000 price range have really driven the market over the past 6-12 months.  This is largely due in part to the great new construction homes available at that price point. 

Homes over $300,000 really lagged behind for the last 6-12 months.  The higher priced the home, the slower the market seemed to be.  However, over the last month or two, we have seen some of the upper end homes begin to move.  This is a good sign for the market as a whole.

With the continually low interest rates, the elevated inventory, and quality of homes on the market in every price range; this is a great time time to buy real estate in Gillette!  Whether you are a first time home buyer, an empty nester, a move-up buyer, or an investor, you can find a great deal on a great home that fits your specific needs!

National High School Finals Rodeo

The National High School Finals Rodeo is once again in full swing here in Gillette WY!  We have approximately 6,000 new citizens for rodeo week and we are welcoming them with open arms.  It is fun to see this great community come together and put on this huge event!  It is also great to see the cam-plex multi events facility used to its full potential. 

We have enjoyed our time volunteering at the rodeo so far this year and have once again been blown away by the scope of this event.  From the 90 vendors covering the 68,000 sq ft Wyoming Center floor to the 1,300+ campers, RV's, and trailers, to the more than 600 volunteers that work a total of 1,900 4 hour shifts; Gillette and cam-plex put on the NHSFR like nobody else!

As a member of the Campbell County Public Land Board that oversees cam-plex, I have seen first hand the amount of work that the dedicated cam-plex staff puts in to make the NHSFR run smoothly.  They are a tight knit family of hardworking individuals who take pride in their work! 

The rodeo has also made some great improvements and investments for its competitors and fans alike.  Each of the two arenas is fitted with a jumbo screen that shows up-close live rodeo action, replays of great performances and nasty falls, and results and information from each performance.  They also broadcast each rodeo performance live online!

Though the week has been long and tiring for many it is a pleasure to open up our community and show off the things that make us so proud to call Gillette home!  We look forward to welcoming back the NHSFR in 2015!

  The Home Buying Path

  • The first step we recommend when starting the home buying process is to speak with a reputable lender to start the pre-qualification process.  We have a list of lenders in our community for anyone who may be looking for a recommendation. Pre-qualification is beneficial in a number of ways. 

1) It gives you first hand knowledge of the types of mortgages available and allows you to figure out what type of mortgage will best fit your financial needs.

2) It allows you to choose a loan amount you are comfortable with as well as know exactly what price range of homes you can afford. 

3) It allows you to readily make an offer once you find the home you want and not risk losing the home to another buyer while you get your financial paperwork in order. 

4) Pre-qualification also strengthens your position when making an offer on a home.  Sellers are often more likely to accept an offer from a pre-approved buyer.

 The pre-approval process is quick and easy and can mean the difference between getting the home you want and missing out on a great deal!  While speaking with a lender is the best way to know exactly what you can afford, the calculators on the right can provide you with some estimates.  

  • Once you have been pre-qualified with a lender, the fun begins!  We will gather some information from you about your desired amenities in your new home (number of bedrooms/bathrooms, neighborhood preference, desired square footage, etc.).  We will then present you with all of the listings that match your criteria and let you decide which homes you would like to go see.

 

  • Once you find the right home for you, we will help you negotiate with the sellers until we reach an agreement on all the terms of the contract.

 

  • Next we will help you hire a professional home inspector to inspect the home thoroughly.

1) After the inspection is complete, we will help you negotiate any repairs you want the sellers to take care of prior to closing.

 

  • We will keep monitoring the contract details and keep you informed about items including the title insurance, appraisal, any contingency clauses, etc.

Donkey Creek Festival

We had never before been to the Donkey Creek Festival and after attending this year, I would venture to say we'll never miss it again! 

In August, 2006, Gillette College began an annual summer tradition when they hosted the first Donkey Creek Jazz Concert. Held on the College lawn near the banks of Donkey Creek, that first concert included only one band and an audience of about 50 people. By 2010 that single concert had grown into a three day festival featuring music, food vendors, artist booths, and other activities that are enjoyed by thousands over the weekend...all at no charge.

The 2011 Donkey Creek Jazz Festival continued the tradition. The audience enjoyed a wide variety of musical genres with jazz from the big band era, New Orleans jazz, avant garde jazz, and New York jazz as well as some blues, reggae, and much much more.  This years festival featured 13 different musicians!  Some were full bands, some just single vocalists, but they were ALL excellent!

As it has in the past, the festival continued to expand this year.  There was a reception for the Avenues of Art, an outdoor movie, a 5k walk/run, pancake feed, classic car show, beer garden, wine tasting, motorcycle show, art exhibits, and food vendors.  Not to mention friendly faces and conversation everywhere you look!

Both the City of Gillette and Gillette College are committed to keeping the Donkey Creek Festival an event the family can enjoy at no cost. Grants from the Campbell County Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Campbell County Community Recreation Board are helping make that possible this year. 

We are very impressed with the organization and success of this event over the past 5 years and we are excited to be in attendance as it continues to grow.  This is just another example of why we love living in Gillette Wyoming!
